Key findings

The Greek Ombudsman, within its competence as the National Mechanism for the Investigation of Arbitrary Incidents, states that during 2023, it received in total 188 complaints for arbitrary incidents of the Hellenic Police, the Hellenic Coast Guard, the Fire Brigade, as well as the personnel of penitentiary facilities. 26 of these cases involved racist motivation or discrimination, many of which lacked an effective investigation by the disciplinary bodies.
